Computer Use & Visual Displays

The heavy use of computers in the workplace has led to vision complaints that have become collectively termed "Computer Vision Syndrome." With proper workplace design most if not all of these complaints can be reduced, if not eliminated.

Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS)

Symptoms:

  • Eyestrain, eye fatigue
  • Blurred vision
  • Focusing difficulty
  • Burning, sore, tearing, or dry eyes

Causes:

  • Inappropriate lighting
  • Glare
    • Veiling reflections
    • Direct glare
  • Inappropriate viewing distance
  • Inappropriate viewing angle
  • Vision correction inadequate or inappropriate for viewing distance
